HSO Zentangle Challenge Entry
HSO Zentangle Challenge
Each week Diane & Carolien’s Weekly Zentangle Challenge puts out a challenge for folks to make their own representation of Diane & Carolien’s idea. This week is Challenge #50, the Alphabet challenge of H-S-O. Use tangles starting with the letters H, S & O in your drawing. It’s your choice to only use patterns with these letters or to add some others as well. Happy Tangling!! We look forward to seeing what you come up with for your H, S & O. Next week are moving to Q-E-R if you want to think ahead of time
My entry for this week HSO Zentangle Challenge
HSO tangles used:
Hollibagh variation; I love doing this, been doing similar things before doing Zentangle. So not so much following the steps, but more happy to find a name to something I really like so I can use it in a challenge.
Swarm; I always feel inadequate when doing a tangle like this, the sides never match up, some have more sides then others… oh well, I do like the look of it, but it took me a lot of effort to make it look like this.
Owlz, Had a tough time choosing an O tangle. I decided to do Owlz, not sure how well it works in this drawing (although I am happy with the result), but I can see it work in some other things. Will be fun to try again.
Bit more cheerful color version then last week 🙂

Diva Challenge #259
The challenge set by The Diva
This week, bring a touch of Irish to your tile. Whatever that means to you. Green pens, green washes, green paper, or maybe gold, a pot of it, or a touch. Maybe a rainbow? A shamrock string? or maybe you just want to drink a McDonald’s Shamrock Shake or better yet, some Irish Whiskey as you tangle.
My Diva Challenge #259 drawing

I’ve used the following tangles for this drawing.
Abundies (center piece), Morf (the little wiggly layered shapes in left bottom and top right), Yinx (the lovely leaves, I really like these!), Fleavy, Cyrano (the pattern in the top, without the little leaves) and pixioze (the little flowery circles and leaves)

A#X Zentangle Challenge
As you might have noticed Diane’s blog is down and out 🙁 She’s working hard to get it back up, some positive thoughts would be much appreciated!
The Challenge
Each week Diane & Carolien’s Weekly Zentangle Challenge puts out a challenge for folks to make their own representation of Diane & Carolien’s idea. This week is Challenge #47, the Alphabet challenge of A#X. Use tangles starting with the letters A, # (numbers), X in your drawing. It’s your choice to only use patterns with these letters or to add some others as well. Happy Tangling!! We look forward to seeing what you come up with for your A, #, X. My Entry
I’ve used 2/8, Aura Leah and X-ess as my tangles. I wasn’t super pleased with the results. But after a few days of staring at it I decided to add some string lines and that seemed to pull it all together. Quite pleased now

Fun Zentangle Tangles

Frost Flower: This tangles has captured my eye a couple of times now. Decided today had to be the day to draw it 🙂 fun, simple but love the effect!
Unbatz: One of my favourites when we have to draw an U. I like the fact that you can add little embellishments if you draw it big enough (which I usually forget haha)
Narwal: I love love love the look of this tangle, but haven’t really captured how to draw it yet. Today I decided to follow a little video, I like it, but there are a few things I’d like to improve on next time. (besides some lines that kinda didn’t go where I had told them too).
I actually started drawing this upside down, or well no (I’m so good with words today). I pencilled in the shape of narwal, with the wide part at the bottom. But my curves looked all off, much better when turned upside down. Now this probably doesn’t matter if you work on a original square canvas. But I draw in a sketchbook. Which kinda really has an obvious top and bottom. So I started drawing with the sketchbook upside down. Then half way through decided it had to become the right way up anyway (you still with me?). I really quite like having Narwal hanging down. Yay for following my pencil ‘mistake’. Turned out awesome.
Then I wasn’t too sure about the shading. Narwal is a tricky one. It kept telling me it wanted really dark around it. Not sure if I went to far with it. But the more I look at it the more I like it. Just need to work on my colored pencil shading so it becomes a bit smoother next time.

On a total side note. Finally got my new computer. I can start pinning all your entries again! My old computer had more or less given up on anymore more then slow lazy work. Pinning, even browsing certain websites were too much for the poor old thing. It’s retired now, enjoying life in the sunroom where it will only play music (somehow that works fine!)

JSW Zentangle Challenge entry
Weekly Challenge #40: Tangle with JSW
Each week Diane & Carolien’s Weekly Zentangle Challenge puts out a challenge for folks to make their own representation of Diane & Carolien’s idea. We are keeping this challenge going through the holidays for those that need the healing of zentangle in this season. This week is Challenge #40, the Alphabet challenge of JSW. Use tangles starting with the letters JSW in your drawing. It’s your choice to only use patterns with these letters or to add some others as well. Happy Tangling!! We look forward to seeing what you come up with for your JSW. Next week are moving to Y-M-# (# means number) if you want to think ahead of time.

JSW tangles
Su-Sy is the flower like shape in the middle. It starts with 3 petals and then add M shapes around and around. My pen gave out a little here and there (I guess it’s time for a new one!) but I like how easy it is to draw.
Joa is the little circles with lines around Su-Sy, it makes the star shape. I adjusted this pattern a little fit my needs, the circles in a line are more on an angle which I thought would be more fun. I think it works. Placed an aura around it to make it a more solid shape so I would not run into issues with my next tangle.
Weben is definitely a favorite of mine. Love the 3D effect. I had never tried to use it around a corner, bend let alone in a circle. I started at the top going right and realized after a few that I was drawing too tight, no space for the line that runs inbetween the squares, so I adjusted to more space, squares became rectangles. I usually find it hard to let go of ‘mistakes’ but in this case I actually really like it that it’s not perfectly spaced. I think it might have become to ‘clean’ otherwise. So good lesson learned!
JSW Zentangle Challenge entry in color
For my colored version I went bold! Really love how the shading of both (shading is the same really) makes the center pop. Really happy with that

See you next week!

Zentangle challenge 35
Zentangle Challenge 35: Tangle with K-U-C
Each week Diane & Carolien’s Weekly Zentangle Challenge puts out a challenge for folks to make their own representation of Diane & Carolien’s idea. This week is Challenge #35, the Alphabet challenge of K-U-C. Use tangles starting with the letters K, U & C in your drawing. It’s your choice to only use patterns with these letters or to add some others as well. Happy Tangling!! We look forward to seeing what you come up with for your K, U & C. Next week are moving to X-P-I if you want to think ahead of time.
Black and white Rocks
For Zentangle challenge 35 KUC I decided to go back to my ‘heavy on black’ style. Love that. Had a bit more time on my hands for this drawing so I was able to not feel rushed. Always nice! For a minute I doubted if I should add color, I love the black and white one so much. But seeing that that is kinda my ‘thing’ I added color. Still prefer the black and white. But the blue turned out pretty nice if I may say so myself.

Koryl can bee seen on the bottom right, fun and easy tangle. I added some black (obviously 😀 ) to make it fit with the rest of the darker tangles.
Connesses is in the top right cup shape thing. I really like this tangle, but somehow today it didn’t want to work for me. The idea is (I think) that the sea star shapes are made from 5 S’s, but I ended up with 6 for one of them for some reason. I got a little annoyed and made it on a scrap piece of paper, same result. I’m missing a point somewhere. But whatever, it still looks fun!
Cruffle shows on the left. Fun! Kept some circles blank as the small circles were kinda too small to fill. Or well no, off course that was intentionally. Haha.
Last but not least UV, I like tangles like these, easy shading and stuff. This one is a bit more tricky trying to get the arc to line up. Quite pleased with how that worked this time 🙂
BTW someone should make some more U tangles (and send me the links or names pretty please 😀 ) because we don’t have that many on our pinterest board. I remember going on a hunt for them not too long ago, but really couldn’t find many. Time for more I’d say! Now don’t be a smartiepants and tell me I could make some, I’m really really not good at coming up with new tangles! I’ve tried, failed and not going there again 🙂
Thanks for stopping by!

H-W-N Zentangle Challenge Entry
Weekly Challenge #34: Tangle with H-W-N
Each week Diane & Carolien’s Weekly Zentangle Challenge puts out a challenge for folks to make their own representation of Diane & Carolien’s idea. This week is Challenge #33, the Alphabet challenge of H-W-N. Use tangles starting with the letters H, W & N in your drawing. H-W-N my entries
Lots of different tangles in this one, I’m sure you’ll recognize a lot of them. For the H-W-N challenge I used Narwal (didn’t turn out as great as I had hoped, have issues where to shade as well!), Wist (the lovely green leaves on the right side and top) and Hulaberry (the flower at the bottom).
I was in Christmas card mood, so I’ll be using this drawing as my Christmas cards 🙂
